THE WAVES HOUSE

Location

Black Rock, Victoria

This striking residence on Beach Road, designed by architect Luke Middleton, is beautifully sculpted and from certain angles appears hewn from a single piece of marble. The ‘wave’ inspired front wall shields the property from Port Phillip Bay opposite. Underground rainwater tanks collect and irrigate the low water use inspired garden which combines coastal tussocks, sedges and groundcovers with succulents and towering Washingtonia Palms. At the rear much time was spent perfecting the aesthetics and function of the pool area, as it serves the main residence as well as a secondary pool house dwelling. The centre piece - the pool, is uniquely shaped to act as a lap pool. The space incorporates several changes in level, terracing, paved areas and screen planting, feature pots and three Washingtonia Palms. Extensive lighting means this space comes into its own during the evening and night time.
