The Queen Victoria Market is one of the most significant landmarks in Melbourne for both shopping and tourism and UELA are very proud to be a part of its evolving ‘place-making strategy’. Following on from the 'PlaceMaking Revitalisation Strategy’ prepared by Village Well for the Victoria Street Shops and ‘F Shed' within the market, UELA have been working closely with the team at QVM to design components which transform the theory of this strategy into reality. UELA have tackled a wide range of components including the design of bespoke market seating and planting containers, the ‘M Shed’ entry and arrival statements, concepts for the activation of the Peel Street end of ‘M Shed’, the running of a design competition with RMIT Sculpture students for the design of feature 'chandelier' art installations and more recently, the conversion of shipping containers into market stalls including a flower stall and a coffee stand.
