A series of pocket parks and small reserves were designed around existing Cypress Pines to create a variety of small open space areas for local residents. All parks utilise the same palette of materials and finishes to establish a strong ‘village’ character and theme - galvanised steel, galvanised corrugated roofing, galvanised perforated mesh, formal gabion walls and bollards filled with bluestone railway ballast, Tuscan Toppings gravel and timber furniture elements. The spaces incorporate shelters, arbours, low walls, marker bollards, seats and play elements. The planting of Juniperus conferta (Japanese Shore Juniper) Juniperus sabina ‘Tamariscifolia’ (Salvin Juniper), Lomandra longifolia, (Spiny Headed Mat Rush), Kniphofia x praecox (Red Hot Poker) and Pyrus calleryana ‘Bradford’ (Bradford Pear) creates a hardy, drought tolerant mix of plants with low maintenance requirements.
